Marine Avenue in Powell River is currently closed off while firefighters respond to gas line damage.
The city posted the news shortly after 3pm today. Marine Avenue is blocked off between Whitby and Cariboo Streets because of gas line damage. Fortis BC confirmed the break was caused by a third-party doing excavation.
Powell River Fire Rescue and Fortis BC are on the scene assessing the situation and doing repairs. The work is expected to take about two hours, and should be done shortly after 5 pm.
In the meantime drivers are asked to find alternative routes around the areas. Fortis says it’s a good reminder for people to always call the BC One Call number before digging, to make sure no gas lines are buried in the area.
