Camping fees to increase in qathet Regional District starting Canada Day

Be prepared to pay more for camping this summer, as the qathet Regional District will increase camping fees.

The district says the decision came following the May 1 finance committee meeting, with the increase meant to reflect operating cost increases and to also avoid relying on taxation for related services.

They say the fees are to cover the cost of wages, use of equipment, administration, overhead, and costs related to operations.

If you camp at Shelter Point Park, fees will go up to $30 per night during high season, changing to $25 a night if washrooms are closed. The fee for more tents goes up to $6 each.

For Haywire Bay Park, camping fees will increase to $30, with an extra $6 for each additional tent. They add the cabin’s rental fee will go up to $60 per night.

These changes come into effect on July 1.
