Powell River RCMP to crack down on dirt bikes being used in public roadways

After numerous reports recently about dangerous driving, Powell River RCMP is taking steps to prevent it.

Over the next few months, Powell River RCMP will be strictly enforcing the Motor Vehicle Act and Off Road Vehicle Act by not allowing any driving of off-road vehicles on public roadways and a zero tolerance for dangerous driving.

Numerous reports have come in recent weeks regarding youth driving on public roadways and dangerous driving on the roads and trail systems.

RCMP are reminding the public that to operate an off-road vehicle anywhere you are required to have ICBC insurance, a valid driver’s license, and must operate the vehicle in a safe manner.

Off-road vehicle drivers must carry identification when operating a vehicle and must be able to present it to RCMP if asked.

Motor Vehicle act fines include $598 for driving without insurance, $276 for driving without a license, and $368 for driving recklessly.

Anyone who witnesses anyone violating the Motor Vehicle Act or the Off Road Vehicle Act is asked to contact the Powell River RCMP at 604-485-6255.
