BC Coroners Service encouraging you to stay cool during heat events

With summer temperatures now coming to BC, the BC Coroners Service is encouraging you to stay cool during heat events.

Updated data from the service shows that last year saw 11 heat-related deaths, with all of them reported from May to August. More than 80 percent of them were in July and August.

They say the report found two-thirds of the deaths were among those over 60, with men making up nearly three-quarters of the deaths in BC.

With 619 lives lost during the 2021 Heat Dome, the province says extreme heat can have some devastating consequences.

For what to do in hotter days, you should check in on your friends, family, and neighbours, visit cooler environments like a cooling centre, mall, and library, stay hydrated, and to never leave kids or pets alone in a parked car.
