Transfer station to open this summer in Powell River

A new transfer station is opening this summer, to help reduce waste going to landfills.

In a social media post from earlier this week, the qathet Regional District says the station will open as part of the Resource Recovery Centre project, a project that’s currently in the third and final stage, which is design and construction.

The goal of the Centre is to help reduce solid waste creation in the area, with the station to be used to help them reach zero waste.

In terms of waste, the district says the station would accept tires, scrap metal, yard and garden material, food scraps, clean wood waste, construction, demolition, and household garbage once open.

The station will be located on Marine Avenue, between Willingdon Beach and Brooks High School.

While it’s expected to open this summer, the date of opening hasn’t been announced yet.
