Powell River Airport now open for daytime flights

After two months of no flights, the Powell River Airport has officially re-opened to the public.

The City says the airport runway has been rehabilitated, with residents now able to take daytime flights to and from the airport.

The runway had to be rehabilitated to meet Aerodrome standards, which included pavement upgrades, new lighting and visual aids, and a runway extension.

Because of the work, Pacific Coastal Airlines suspended flights between Powell River and Vancouver from April 8 to June 9.

Mayor Ron Woznow says he thanks city staff and their partners for working together to meet the community’s needs during the closure.

The city thanks the community for making different travel arrangements during that period.

While you can book a flight, it’s only for the daytime as nighttime flights will continue after the final parts of the project are finished later this summer.

The project is set to finish by the end of July.
